About

Hudson Music Studios Rock Camp, Jazz Workshop, Diving Into Art, Theater Workshop, Explore Ceramics, and Feast in the Kitchen offers focused experiences in music, visual art, theater, ceramics, and cooking. Students may take part in Rock Camp and Jazz Workshop, Diving Into Art, Theater Workshop, Explore Ceramics, and Feast in the Kitchen, with activities that include small group music lessons and ensembles, drawing and painting, acting in drama and comedy, working with clay by hand and on the pottery wheel, and cooking dishes from around the world. These programs bring together active musicians, dancers, artists, actors and directors, and chefs to work directly with participants.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Bridgehampton Summer Camp & Arts Programs for All Ages run July 13–17 and July 20–24, with Diving Into Art and Explore Ceramics described as weeklong experiences and Feast in the Kitchen described as a 2-hour class

In Rock Camp, students learn from actively performing musicians in small group lessons, ensembles, and electives, and they can study up to two instruments (including voice) or focus on one main instrument while exploring a wide range of musical styles, improvisation, songwriting, and reading and writing music. Rock Camp students perform a concert at the end of the session for parents, friends, and the public. Jazz Workshop is described for high school students and adults, with students grouped with peers to study music from the jazz idiom, including Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Duke Ellington, and Chick Corea, and every student plays in multiple bands with a lead teacher, with a concert at the end of the session.

Diving Into Art runs in fall, spring, and summer and includes drawing, painting in watercolor and acrylic, photography, anime drawing, and more with professional artists, and at the end of the week there is an exhibit where students display their art. Theater Workshop is a summer theater camp where students work with leading professionals and gain experience in drama, comedy, musicals, and creating original works by participants, ending with a performance for friends, family, and the public. Explore Ceramics splits time between hand building and using the pottery wheel, and students’ work goes into a kiln at the end of the week.

Feast in the Kitchen is a culinary class where students make cuisine from around the world from scratch, including handmade pasta, Bolognese sauce, ice cream, tiramisu, Neapolitan pizza, and paella, in a 2-hour class where participants cook together and take new recipes home. Large Feast in the Kitchen classes can be held in the Hamptons or NYC, and smaller groups can have classes at the student’s home. Additional offerings connected with these programs include Dance Intensive, guitar and piano classes, private music lessons, photography, and cooking and culinary classes for adults.

The organization began in 2002. Artistic Director Stephen P. Hudson is an award-winning pianist and composer for film and the concert hall, with over 20 years of public performance and over 17 years of teaching experience in public and private schools and several universities in the US and Canada, including Rider University in Princeton and St. Francis College in Brooklyn. He is a graduate of Mason Gross at Rutgers and Manhattan School of Music, has been a finalist in the International Songwriter’s Competition, has performed at the Blue Note, Lincoln Center, and the Monterey Jazz Festival, and his film music has appeared in films with HBO, Cannes Film Festival, and network television. All teachers are described as active musicians, artists, actors and directors, and chefs, and adult class teachers are described as leading professionals in their art forms.

The mission of these programs is to inspire students in music, dance, art, theater, and culinary arts camps and classes, while including fun and friendship in a supportive community, and to inspire students so that they go on to build and create in their own way. The programs describe every student as unique, with an inner spark that faculty aim to recognize, nurture, and challenge, and faculty are required to stay curious, search for what resonates with students, communicate well, and pursue their own careers in their art forms. One parent testimonial states that a child in Rock Camp “absolutely had a blast” and that other parents said it was the best camp their kids had attended.
