About

Youth Summer Art Programs include week-long summer classes that focus on photography and zine-making. In All Things Photography, students work with photography, darkroom photography, digital photography, experimental photography, photograms, Polaroid transfers, cyanotype, and collage. In Zines for Teens, students use their photographic work and collage to create a zine, which is a short, homemade magazine, and each student leaves with photo prints, negatives, and a completed zine.

• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Week-long summer classes, each running for a half day from 9:00am–12:30pm
• Price: All Things Photography – Summer 2026: $225.00; Zines for Teens – Summer 2026: $225.00; a $50 cancellation fee applies, and cancellations made less than 3 days before the start of class do not receive a refund.

Classes are kept small at only 8 students or participants. Cameras are available for use in the youth summer art programs, and students are also welcome to use their own. All materials are included for the Zines for Teens class.

CEPA Gallery was founded during the Alternative Space Movement in May 1974. Big Orbit Project Space was incorporated in 1991 and merged with CEPA in 2013. The Education Director is Nate Ely.

CEPA Gallery is a contemporary photography and visual arts center with three galleries of changing exhibits and events, multimedia public art installations, arts education programs, and an open-access darkroom and digital photo lab. CEPA suggests checking out their friends at Squeaky Wheel, now located in the Tri-Main building, for half day youth programs and virtual summer classes. A featured CEPA Summer Art Program student, Hope Grunert, stated, “CEPA is the reason I am the photographer I am. I have learned things that I will keep with me for the rest of my life and I have met people who have shaped the way I take a photo.”
