About
Camp Good Grief is a bereavement day camp where children and teenagers take part in group therapy, art therapy, and music therapy. The program also includes sports, swimming, arts and crafts, and exploring nature as part of the camp experience.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Price: Camp is provided free of charge thanks to our generous donors.
Camp Good Grief is a program of East End Hospice, which was founded in 1991. Its stated mission is to bring children and teens who are grieving together in a caring and supportive environment. East End Hospice is a NYS Certified Hospice.
All Camp Good Grief therapists are licensed in their specialty and have many years of clinical experience, including advanced practice social workers, psychologists, and art and music therapists who have undergone extensive training by East End Hospice in the treatment of children’s grief. Volunteers have undergone hours of training and have spent a year or more working under the supervision of the social workers helping to co-lead children’s bereavement groups. The camp is led by Camp Director Angela Byrns, LCSW, who also serves as Children’s Bereavement Coordinator at East End Hospice.
Camp Good Grief is described as a bereavement day camp for grieving children and teenagers, with four days of healing, connection, and fun in a supportive and caring environment. Camper capacity is limited to 150 campers for the July 20–23, 2026 session, and priority is given to first-time campers. All activities are designed to provide age appropriate information about grief while balancing work with fun, and there is a special event every afternoon designed to bring an end to the day with fun and excitement.
East End Hospice’s Camp Good Grief serves any child or teenager who has suffered a loss of a parent or loved one and teenagers from New York Tri-State and Long Island areas including Nassau County, Suffolk County, New York City, Connecticut, and New Jersey. A Camp Good Grief participant stated, “It makes me feel a lot better that everyone in this room has lost someone and they all know how I feel.”
