In March 2000, the Moriches Community Center was incorporated as a nonprofit organization. In January 2019, it obtained a permanent home at the newly renovated Moriches Bay Recreation Center through an agreement with the Town of Brookhaven. Anthony Parlato III and Kathleen Johnson were named Co-Executive Directors, and the current Executive Director is Michael Valentine. Anthony Parlato III passed away on April 24, 2013, and Kathleen Johnson passed away in 2024.

Residents of the Moriches Bay area created the center to offer a secure and closely monitored place that encourages positive behavior choices among local youth, with an emphasis on violence prevention, diversity tolerance, civic pride, and personal responsibility. The Moriches Community Center works with social workers from the Center Moriches School District to identify and provide gifts and food for over 30 local families during the holiday season through its Holiday Outreach Program and Santa’s Workshop Event. A portion of the proceeds from the yoga series, the Anthony Parlato III Memorial 5K Run/Walk, and the Annual Kathleen Johnson Memorial Nine and Dine Golf Invitational benefit Moriches Community Center programs and events. The center offers the Parlato-Johnson Memorial Scholarship, which provides two $1,000 scholarships to Center Moriches seniors pursuing higher education who embody the philosophy “Help Someone Today” and “Be Kind Always.”
