Moriches Community Center Youth Programs and Camps offers a range of activities including Olympic Camp, Camp Creativity, Theater Arts Camp, Friday Night Dodgeball, and an After-School Drop-In. The program also includes Peer Leadership, Fitness Fun with IGHL, Holiday Outreach, Pick-Up Pickleball, After School Tutoring, and events such as the Annual Anthony Parlato Memorial 5K Run/Walk, Folkie Fest, the Kathleen Johnson Memorial Nine and Dine, Santa’s Workshop Event, and the Turkey Bowl Fundraiser.
• Schedule: After-School Drop-In Lounge starts on the first day of the 25–26 school year on September 3, 2025, and runs from 2:30–4:30 pm every school day; Friday Night Dodgeball runs from September 2025 through June 2026.
• Price: Folkie Fest tickets are $15 at the door.
In the spring of 2000, community discussions were initiated, and in March 2000 the Moriches Community Center was incorporated. In January 2019, Moriches Community Center obtained a permanent home at the newly renovated Moriches Bay Recreation Center. Anthony Parlato III and Kathleen Johnson were named Co-Executive Directors, and Michael Valentine is Executive Director. The mission of the organization focuses on youth-based programs aimed at offering an alternative to involvement in unhealthy risk-taking behaviors through the emphasis on violence prevention and diversity tolerance while encouraging civic pride and personal responsibility.
Working in tandem with social workers at CMSD, the organization identified and provided gifts and food for over 30 local families during the holiday season. The Holiday Outreach Program provided gifts and food for over 30 local families. The Turkey Bowl Fundraiser made a donation to Santa’s Workshop Event. The organization offers two $1000 Parlato-Johnson Memorial Scholarship Essay scholarships to Center Moriches seniors looking to attend higher education. The Kathleen Johnson Memorial Nine and Dine raised $32,000, and the Anthony Parlato Memorial 5K raised $10,000. An agreement with the Town of Brookhaven enabled the Moriches Community Center to have a permanent home at the Moriches Bay Recreation Center.
