About

Capital District YMCA Youth Programs include day camps, preschool, early childhood care, childcare, and before- and after-school care for school-age kids. The programs also offer after-school programs, leadership programs, teen programs, and an indoor Triathlon series. Youth can take part in Youth & Government, Black & Latino Achievers, Circle of Champs, and activities connected to initiatives such as Pedaling for Parkinson’s and LIVESTRONG®.

The Capital District YMCA states that its childcare programs are licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services. The organization’s mission is to support, engage, and strengthen the Capital Region community through programs and partnerships focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The YMCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The Youth & Government program traces its history to a small program at the Albany YMCA in 1936 that has grown into a nationwide initiative connecting young people with democracy through hands-on learning. Circle of Champs serves more than 150 families of children facing life-threatening illnesses. The Capital District YMCA reports delivering $2 million in impact across the Capital Region each year, including $500,000 in scholarships, and notes that through scholarships it provides tools for low-income youth to pursue their best possible future. Nationwide Membership allows Capital District YMCA members to visit participating YMCAs across the United States and Puerto Rico at no extra cost.

The Capital District YMCA partners with HMA Contracting, Hamel Real Estate & St. Edwards Church, and the Capital Region Food Pantries on Basket Brigade, which provides Thanksgiving meals to more than 1,200 families each year. Food drives for local pantries are used to support families in the Capital District, and the Running Start program distributes school supplies and clothing to more than 800 kids in need before each school year.
