About
One River School – Hartsdale (Camps & Art Classes) offers studio art, digital art, design, animation, and weekly art and design classes. Students can take Art Shuffle classes with drawing, painting, and mixed media projects, Digital Art Shuffle classes, and focus classes in areas such as animation, cosplay, and painting. All tools and materials are provided for these activities, except that campers attending a Procreate camp need to bring an iPad and stylus.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Camp sessions run for two and a half hours in the morning (9:30 am–12:00 pm), afternoon (12:30–3:00 pm), and late afternoon (3:30–6:00 pm), with early drop-off available for morning camps beginning at 8:45 am; school hours run Monday–Sunday with varying opening and closing times.
• Price: $75 OFF EACH CAMP, ENDS 5/31; Early Drop Off for morning camps beginning at 8:45am is available for $25 per week.
Over 100 weekly half- and full-day camp options are available, and families can bundle morning and afternoon camps for a full-day experience. All camp sessions include a 15-minute break each day, and campers are asked to pack a light, nut-free snack and water bottle, and a nut-free lunch if staying for the whole day, as well as wear comfortable, art-friendly clothing. The weekly camp structure follows a set pattern: Monday Creative Ideation, Tuesday Meet the Artist, Wednesday Learn technique, Thursday Skill Building, and Friday Show Time.
Summer camps are led by practicing artists, designers, and animators, and teaching artists are described as supportive mentors. The leadership team includes Julia Bertussi, a multimedia artist and educator with a BA in Art Education from Ithaca College; Jaime Morrow, an artist and educator with a BFA in Illustration from the University of Hartford and over a decade of art teaching experience; and Dora Tomulic, who holds an MA in Fine Art from the Academy of Fine Art of the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and has experience as an art director in advertising, founder of a design school, editor of a monograph, contributing author to a book, and practicing artist.
The program offers Art Shuffle classes with approximately two-week project cycles, Art Shuffle® month-long projects in drawing, painting, and mixed media, and Art Shuffle® Plus, which is described as a dynamic studio experience guided by creative goals and personal interests. Focus classes provide longer-format projects using specialty materials, and open studio classes are available for intermediate to advanced students with instructor guidance and group critique. One River School describes its studios as warm, inclusive spaces for all skill levels, with a social, creative community environment, a wide range of class times, and unlimited makeup options.
Lesson plans draw inspiration from contemporary artists, and projects are described as age-appropriate, engaging, and reflective of the world around students.
