About
Squire Camps offers a wide range of activities, including cooking, swimming, robotics, computers, art, photography, bounce houses, and carnival games. Campers can design a custom schedule from a list of over 50 different courses within a set of four distinct summer day camp programs. Hot lunches are provided for all campers, and each camper receives an ice-pop as an afternoon snack, with lunches available for campers with gluten-intolerance or other dietary needs, such as vegetarians, and no nut products allowed on the premises.
• Schedule: Drop-off runs from 8:45 am to 9:15 am, pick-up is at 3:15 pm, with early drop-off available starting at 8 am and an optional extended day program from 3:15 pm to 5:30 pm.
• Price: The extended day program costs $150 per week in addition to regular tuition, and door-to-door transportation is available at $275 per camper per week, with no refunds for canceled transportation.
Squire Camps is a family-owned business with a history of working with children that began in 1972, when John and Cynthia Davanzo started the camp in their basement in Pelham, NY. Over the years, the camp moved to Mariandale on the Hudson in Ossining in 1977, then to Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry in 1981, then to the Master's School in 2001, and in 2015 it moved to its current centralized location in Westchester County. The program describes itself as a family-owned business with a 50- to 53-year history of working with children and emphasizes total choice programs that are completely individualized, allowing campers to customize their own high-quality summer experience, particularly for those who are both academically and athletically driven and who seek new experiences within a well-structured and supervised environment.
The staff consists of qualified adults and schoolteachers rather than high school students, including New York and Connecticut State Certified adult coaches and teachers. Several teachers and coaches hold RTE and First Aid certifications, and there is a Registered Nurse on staff. The camp states that most of the staff has been with Squire Camps for many years, all campers are supervised at all times, and the camper-to-teacher ratio is 6:1 or less for supervision and camper-teacher interaction.
Squire Camps notes that it educates and inspires campers using up-to-date educational methods and techniques within a fully individualized program and that it is catered to campers who are both academically and athletically driven. Parents may enroll children in an extended day program, and transportation is available door-to-door to most lower Westchester communities. An Open House and Indoor Carnival is offered on February 8th from 11 am to 2 pm, featuring bounce houses, food, and carnival games.
