About
ADK Youth & Teen Programs take place within ADK’s Adirondak Loj, Wilderness Campground at Heart Lake, Johns Brook Lodge, and additional backcountry cabins and lean-tos, using a mix of lodge lodging, tent and lean-to camping, and backcountry overnights. Participants may stay in spaces that include bunk rooms, private or co-ed loft-style lodging, tent sites, lean-tos, a camp, a yurt, canvas cabins, and backcountry cabins with cooking facilities, propane heat and lights, and provided mattresses. All Johns Brook facilities connected with these programs are carry in, carry out, and at the backcountry cabins and lean-tos there are no fires allowed, so participants follow specific guidelines for cooking, waste, and water use, including collecting or boiling water as directed.
• Schedule: Johns Brook Lodge operates with a full-service season from late June to Labor Day and a caretaker season from September to late June.
ADK Youth & Teen Programs use facilities that include vault toilets at Johns Brook Lodge and backcountry cabins, with no showers at Johns Brook Lodge, the backcountry cabins, or the lean-tos in Johns Brook Valley. At the Wilderness Campground at Heart Lake, every site has a fire ring and picnic table, and there are washhouse facilities with showers, with the campground open year-round and without electricity or cell service. During the summer months of June through September, guests at lean-tos in Johns Brook Valley can borrow bear-resistant food canisters and obtain potable water from Johns Brook Lodge, and guests at the backcountry cabins either collect water at Johns Brook Lodge or boil water from a nearby brook. ADK members receive a 10% discount on all rates at the Adirondak Loj, cabins, Wilderness Campground, Johns Brook Lodge, backcountry cabins, and lean-tos. ADK works closely with partners across New York State to advance shared goals of conservation, stewardship, and public access to the outdoors.
