Camp Ampersand is a summer camp program that is part of the Camp Ampersand Summer Camp offerings. It is connected with programs that also run in Malone and Saranac Lake under the same organization.
The organization behind Camp Ampersand traces its history to the Plattsburgh YMCA, whose first location was on the top floor of the D&H terminal starting in 1887. After a move to a site above Tierney's Variety Store that burned down in 1902, the YMCA received a bequest in 1908 from Loyal Smith of $35,000 for a new building and $100,000 for ongoing operations, leading to the current Plattsburgh YMCA location on Oak Street. Another related program, Camp Akalaka Camp, is open to children ages 5–12.
