About

Children & Teens Dance Programs includes ballet classes, hip-hop classes, soloist coaching, and dance performance opportunities. The program features dance productions and ballet performances that involve children and teens in structured rehearsal and class time.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Fall sessions run from October through December, and spring sessions run during March and April.
• Price: Dance Performance Program is tuition-free with a suggested minimum donation; Soloist Performance Programs are casting-based.

In the Dance Performance Program fall session, Ballet 1 for ages 3–7 meets from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, Hip Hop for all ages meets from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM, and Ballet 2 for ages 8 and older meets from 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM. The spring session follows the same class structure and times in March and April. The Soloist Performance Program in the fall includes soloists’ featured role classes for The Nutcracker from October through December, with classes listed as 11:15 PM to 2:00 PM, and the spring soloist coaching runs in March and April from 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM for spring performances. Nutcracker casting call show dates are scheduled for December 6 & 7, 13 & 14, and 20 & 21, 2025.

Programs are under the guidance of Artistic Director Dr. Chiara Ajkun and are carried out by experienced Senior Artists of the Ajkun Ballet professional company. The leadership team includes Artistic Director Dr. Chiara Ajkun and Young Dancers Coordinator Elisa Molinari. Ajkun Ballet Theatre states that it creates positive and nurturing experiences to further children's creative and musical skills, self-esteem and confidence, while naturally advancing knowledge of Performance Technique and Etiquette. The Ajkun Ballet Theatre, Inc. is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt corporation founded to promote public interest in the art of dance, to present dance productions, and to support younger generations of dancers and dance professionals.

Programs are rooted in collaboration between artists and communities, and Ajkun Ballet Theatre offers dance performance opportunities in New York City, Westchester County, and New York's Capital Region. The organization offers opportunities to earn a New York State Certificate in the Ajkun © Methodology. Programs are based upon Federal and New York State standards, and the Ajkun Ballet Theatre is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, home to its company, school, and artistic development. Ajkun Ballet Company performs in Midtown Manhattan and the Upper East Side.

Ballet and hip-hop classes are available for children ages 3–13 divided by age, with no previous experience required. Soloist coaching is offered for dance students ages 6–18 with some dance experience preferred, and a soloist program is available for children and teens ages 6–18 with or without experience. Available Nutcracker roles include soloist roles for ages 8–10 such as Clara, Nutcracker Doll, Fritz, and Nutcracker Soldier, and group roles for ages 3–7 such as Angels. Programs have a limited number of places, and early registration is strongly recommended.

One 5th grade student from New Rochelle, Eden, describes the company dancers as amazing and says they inspire her and help her do what she loves and get better at it, and that Ajkun Ballet Theatre has changed her perspective on dance and taught her a lot from watching how they work. A parent of Andrew, a 6th grader from Queens, states that the program has met and pushed him to the next level of technique and performance, particularly as a young male dancer in training. Davi, a 5th grader from New Rochelle, says that for the past five years she has loved dancing in Ajkun Ballet Theatre's Young Dancers Performance Program and that it gives her a chance to shine on stage. Mira, a 3rd grader from New Rochelle, says she likes that kids get to share the stage with the Ajkun Ballet Theatre dancers and that it makes kids stars and is fun. Parents of Grace (3rd grade), Stella (1st grade), and Hope (Pre-K) from New Rochelle say they cannot explain the positive impact the experience had on all three girls and that Hope has been doing ballet nonstop since the last performance. A parent of Juliet, in Pre-K from Croton-on-Hudson, says Juliet had a wonderful time, shared a great experience, and is still smiling from ear to ear.
