Island Rock Youth Programs

Island Rock Youth Programs includes recreational youth sessions with roped rock climbing, beginner instruction, climbing games, and other activities. The offerings also include homeschool programs, developmental team practice, competitive team practice, elite team practice, Camp Island Rock, and weekly yoga classes.

• Recreational Youth Programs: Ages 4-5 Pinchers — Ages 4-5 · Saturdays or Sundays 10:00 AM-11:00 AM · $50–$415 · Roped rock climbing through beginner instruction, fun climbing games & other activities. Trial Day $50.00; 1 Day/Week $415.00. Gear rental included in price, no climbing experience necessary.
• Recreational Youth Programs: Ages 6-8 Crimpers — Ages 6-8 · Saturdays or Sundays 11:30 AM-1:00 PM · $50–$525
• Recreational Youth Programs: Ages 9-12 Grippers — Ages 9-12 · Tuesday/Thursday 5:00 PM-7:00 PM; Tuesday/Thursday 7:00 PM-9:00 PM · $50–$1,099

Focuses on building foundational strength and technical skills to prepare for USA Climbing Competitions. Athletes are not required to compete. Team Membership is included.
• Competitive Team — Climbers ages 6-18 · Monday 5:30 PM-7:30 PM; Wednesday 5:30 PM-7:30 PM; Friday 5:30 PM-7:30 PM · $949–$1,149 · Practice 2-3 days a week. Athletes are required to compete in at least 2 USAC competitions per season. Team Membership is included.
• Elite Team — Our most competitive climbers including those competing at Regional, Divisional, and National levels · Monday 7:30 PM-9:30 PM; Wednesday 7:30 PM-9:30 PM; Friday 7:30 PM-9:30 PM · $949–$1,149 · Practice 2-3 days a week. Athletes are required to compete in at least 2 USAC competitions per season. Team Membership is included.
• Camp Island Rock — Monday-Friday 9:00 AM-12:00 PM; Monday-Friday 12:30 PM-3:30 PM · 8 weeks of fun starting July 7th. Single-day, full-week, and bi-weekly enrollment available. Full gear rentals are included.
• Weekly Yoga Classes — All levels welcome, no experience necessary · Monday 7:00 PM-8:00 PM; Wednesday 7:00 PM-8:00 PM; Saturday 9:30 AM-10:30 AM · $2–$12 · Vinyasa Yoga Flow classes. Pricing listed: FREE with Memberships; Yoga Class-Only Drop-In $12.00; Yoga Class Drop In w/ Day Pass $7.00; Yoga Mat Rental $2.00.

About the provider

Island Rock says it has served Long Island climbers since 1996 and has over 30 years of experience. Its mission statement says it is dedicated to serving Long Island's climbing community and believes in creating an open and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. The leadership team includes Ross S. G.M. & V.P.; Eric, Director of Routesetting; Dom, Youth Program Director; Sophia, Manager; Summer, Route Setter; Kimberly, Marketing Director; James, Manager; and Ty, Manager.

Youth programs are perfect for climbers ages 6+ looking for weekly climbing programs in a fun and encouraging environment. Recreational youth sessions state no climbing experience necessary. Any participant under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver. No one under 14 may climb unless accompanied by an adult. No one under 15 may belay except in classes or lessons conducted by Island Rock.
