The Port Washington Soccer Club was established in 1975 and is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. It is the oldest, largest and most well-respected soccer club in the community and is the only organization in Port Washington dedicated to providing programs that meet the needs of every child looking for a positive experience through soccer. It is also the only club in Port Washington authorized to play in both Long Island Junior Soccer League and EDP/NY Club Soccer, and players can compete in the LI Cup, described as one of the largest soccer tournaments in the world.
The club’s mission is to provide the Port Washington, NY community youth with a soccer experience that allows each player to maximize their own individual potential. Programs are offered for boys and girls from Pre-K through high school, with revamped and re-imagined Intramural (U4-U7), U8 Diamond League and Intramural Plus (U9-U13) programs serving over 600 recreational players. The Travel Soccer program features over 30 teams in boys and girls age groups from U9-U19.
The Port Washington Soccer Club is a 100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit club, run entirely by dedicated community volunteers. It provides scholarships to over 100 players each year that would not otherwise be able to participate in their programs and thanks the Port Washington Community Chest for their continued support. The club has partnered with Gerneil “Jigsy” Lorne and his Jigs Soccer School to provide Director of Coaching services and professional training services to all of the club’s programs.
Professional, licensed trainers work under the guidance of Gerneil “Jigsy” Lorne, who serves as Director of Coaching, with a philosophy to have a professional trainer at all soccer events, including clinics, practices, games and tournaments. Professional, licensed trainers are present even at the U4 intramural program. Core principles and curriculums are implemented in intramural programs to ensure players are developing at the appropriate pace to make the leap to travel soccer at the U9 level, and the club uses a club-wide style of play and formation so players share the same vocabulary, positions, and styles, referring to positions by number using a numbering system known and utilized globally.
The club has an exclusive Youth Club Affiliate program with NYCFC Academy through PWSC and Jigs Soccer, and several PWSC players have been invited to join NYCFC Academy. One of Gerneil “Jigsy” Lorne’s former players went through the NYCFC Academy and is now on the 1st team at NYCFC and made his MLS debut in June 2024. The club also uses catch-phrases such as “Find your amazing!”, “#goproinlife”, “Mentors not coaches”, and “Progress, then success”.
Wintermurals use smaller confines and a smooth surface to foster better foot skills and quicker decision-making, with Wintermurals programs available for players U4-U13. The Winter Diamond League features a fast-paced 30 minute 4v4 or 3v3 match each week. Clinics and camps focus on specific skill sets including goalkeeping, ball mastery, goal scoring/finishing and speed/agility, are led by an elite trainer in a small group setting, and are open to boys and girls of all ages. Private training is available with Jigs Soccer School training staff with a personalized approach to player development, and Jigs Summer Soccer Camp provides a fun atmosphere for players of all ages and ability levels to develop their skills.
Gerneil “Jigsy” Lorne serves as Director of Coaching and can be reached at (917) 863-7768.
