The mission of the USTA Foundation is to bring tennis and education together to change lives. The National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network features nearly 300 chapters reaching approximately 180,000 youth on an annual basis and provides free or low-cost tennis and scholastic programming to the 50 largest markets in the U.S. Team Challenge is an introductory environment that allows kids to play without an emphasis on instruction or results. Junior Team Tennis is a more competitive team format that includes singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches. Junior Circuit events use level-based play and include a focus on learning and demonstrating good sportsmanship. Wheelchair tennis in these programs is part of a complete wheelchair pathway from youth and high school (Net Generation) through collegiate and international competition such as the Paralympics and the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tour. Adaptive tennis in these programs can improve hand-eye coordination, balance, mobility, strength and fitness, build self-confidence, relieve stress and create a social outlet. The USTA’s American Development Model (ADM) is a comprehensive athletic development framework for providers, coaches, athletes and parents for growing friendships, improving skill, and maximizing the potential of players at all levels. Every individual playing tennis of every age and ability in these programs has the right to feel safe and supported and should be treated with respect, kindness and dignity. Sportsmanship is an integral pillar in the USTA’s youth tennis strategy for players, parents, family, coaches and fans.
