About
Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center is a Reggio inspired, Mandarin immersion nursery and preschool where children take part in storytelling, art, dance, play, music, and movement. Children also use an indoor activity room for ball play, time on a climbing wall, and a loft that is used for imaginative play. In the classroom, children hear and use both English and Mandarin, including songs, rhymes, and games in Mandarin, with each classroom staffed by an English-speaking teacher and a Mandarin-speaking teacher.
• Ages: 1–5 years old
Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center follows a student-led immersive language model rooted in exploration, experimentation, and play, with classrooms that change based on the needs and interests of the children rather than a predetermined curriculum. Children engage with Mandarin through common phrases, songs, rhymes, games, visuals, and repetition, and the immersive experience includes both Mandarin and English. The center’s facilities feature neutral color palettes, minimalist design, natural wooden toys, open play areas, large bulletin boards, ample wall space, attached bathrooms in each classroom, and an indoor activity room with sun-strewn open space for movement, ball play, a climbing wall, and a loft. Each room requires electronic access for entry, and the HVAC systems use MERV 13 filters or higher, UVC lights, Bi-Polar Ionization air filtration, thermal cameras to read body temperature, and daily electrostatic spraying and disinfecting.
Kuei Luck was started in 1996, and Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center opened its doors in Rego Park over five years ago as the flagship location. The organization is family-owned and operated, with a mission to foster a child-led, independent learning environment. The leadership team includes founder Stella Kung, who started the organization in 1996 while working as a finance professional, and Executive Director Kevin Kung, who has played an instrumental role in continuing the mission and expanding Kuei Luck with the addition of two Reggio inspired learning centers. Kuei Luck has been described as a vital support system for parents since its inception and has expanded to provide local communities with early childhood education based on a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum and the Reggio-Emilia philosophy that views the classroom as the third teacher.
Parents describe the program as child-centric and age-appropriate, noting that children enjoy the activity room and aftercare program in the Pre-K year. One parent reports that both of their children have attended since 13 months old and that the Reggio style allows them to follow their interests through play and activities. Another parent shares that their 1-year-old adjusted within a couple of weeks and that they receive daily updates with photos of their child playing, smiling, and engaging in new experiences.
