About

Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center offers storytelling, art, dance, play, and movement, along with ball play, imaginative play, songs, rhymes, and games. Children also have access to an indoor activity room that includes a climbing wall and a loft.

Kuei Luck was started in 1996, and Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center opened its doors in Rego Park over 5 years ago. The center is a Reggio inspired, Mandarin Immersion Nursery and Preschool in New York City, with a student-led immersive language model rooted in exploration, experimentation, and play. Each classroom has an English-speaking teacher and a Mandarin-speaking teacher, and children hear and engage with both languages at the same time, including learning common phrases, songs, rhymes, and games in Mandarin. Classrooms follow a Reggio-Emilia inspired approach in which they constantly evolve with the needs and interests of children rather than following a predetermined curriculum, and the Reggio Emilia philosophy views the classroom as the third teacher. The program describes its mission as fostering a child-led, independent learning environment as part of a family-owned and operated center. Facilities use neutral color palettes, minimalist design, natural wooden toys and furniture, open play areas, large bulletin boards and wall space, and an indoor activity room with sun-strewn open space for movement, ball play, a climbing wall, and a loft. The Greenpoint location offers a dedicated indoor play space and a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum, and Rego Park is the flagship location. The center states that its immersive experience enables children to develop proficient speaking skills in Mandarin and English.

The program notes that electronic access is required for entry to each room and that it uses a camera-enabled infrared temperature check at the front entrance, thermal cameras to read individuals’ body temperature, and daily electrostatic spraying and disinfecting. All HVAC systems use MERV 13 filters or higher, UVC lights, and Bi-Polar Ionization air filtration, and the program reports daily electrostatic spraying and disinfecting.

Kuei Luck describes itself as a vital support system for parents since its inception and states that Kuei Luck Early Childhood Center provides local communities with quality early childhood education. The Greenpoint campus invites families to “Be among the first to join our Greenpoint community,” the Long Island City campus is surrounded by a growing neighborhood and aims to meet local families, and the Harlem campus aims to meet and serve the Harlem community.

The leadership team includes founder Stella Kung, who started the organization in 1996 and is described as a mother and finance professional, and Executive Director Kevin Kung. One parent, Sara (mom to Jonah), describes the program’s philosophy as “child-centric,” notes that her child loves the activity room and looks forward to the aftercare program every day in Pre-K, and mentions that it is a small school in a new facility. Another parent, Agnes (mom to Aliya and Sophia), states that both of her children have attended since the age of 13 months, that the environment celebrates the uniqueness of each child, and that the Reggio style allows them to gravitate toward their interests in a structured way with a focus on learning through play and activities. A third parent, Stella (mom to Karis), shares that her 1-year-old daughter attends, that this was her first full-time care outside of parents, and that within a couple of weeks they saw their daughter “learning so much and thriving” at Kuei Luck, with daily updates and pictures of their daughter playing, smiling, and learning new things.

The leadership team is listed as Stella Kung (founder of the organization in 1996, mother and finance professional) and Kevin Kung (Executive Director).
