Rye YMCA Youth Basketball includes basketball classes that cover dribbling, shooting, passing, basketball drills, footwork, ball handling, and gameplay. The program offers skills and drills such as coordination, fitness, balance, effective foot work, ball handling technique, and shooting form. It includes a Youth Basketball League (YBL), a Co-Ed Basketball League, a Girls Basketball League, and a Middle School Basketball League and Clinic where participants learn as they play, with some league formats providing a half hour of instruction followed by a half hour game.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Teams play one game a week from mid-November through February, with registration starting in October.
The Youth Basketball League (YBL) is for ages 5–9 and follows the YMCA Super Sports philosophy as a progressive league that allows participants to learn as they play. For children aged 5–7, the program focuses on learning the basics of dribbling, shooting, and passing. Children aged 8–11 take part in fun and challenging basketball drills such as footwork, ball handling, and shooting. The Middle School Basketball League and Clinic is offered for grades 6–8. The Rye YMCA states that it is a family oriented community service organization which welcomes all people and promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body. The YMCA states that it will be a leading charitable organization that strives to meet the health, wellness, social and recreational needs of the residents of Rye, Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont and Port Chester.
