The world-class faculty is led by Itzhak Perlman, with Toby Perlman serving as President and Founder. The program describes itself as a worldwide family of more than 700 alumni and holds alumni gatherings in New York City. Travel Residencies bring the program’s activities and mission to communities in Sarasota, Palm Beach, Tel Aviv, and beyond, and a vibrant curriculum of programs, residencies, concerts, mentorship, and educational engagement fills more than 300 days of the year. The mission of The Perlman Music Program is to offer unparalleled musical training to young string players of rare and special talent and to make this training available regardless of economic background or financial means, based on Toby Perlman’s idea to meet the needs of each child, respect and trust students, and immerse them in a nurturing environment that emphasizes connection over competition. One guiding belief expressed by the program is that young people do best in an atmosphere in which they are being heard and not judged, where they take risks and try out new ideas.
