• Ages: 12–18 years old

The Perlman Music Program was founded by Toby Perlman in 1994 and has been nurturing early promise for over 30 years. In 2000, a group of supporters secured a 28-acre home that serves as the base for the Summer Music School, Chamber Music Workshop, Chamber Music Retreat, Stires-Stark Alumni Recitals, and Works in Progress Concerts. The program’s mission is to offer unparalleled musical training to young string players of rare and special talent and to make this training available regardless of economic background or financial means. Toby Perlman’s vision is based on meeting the needs of each child, respecting and trusting students, and immersing them in a nurturing environment that emphasizes connection over competition. The faculty is led by Itzhak Perlman, and the program maintains a vibrant curriculum of programs, residencies, concerts, mentorship, and educational engagement that fills more than 300 days of the year.

The Perlman Music Program describes itself as a worldwide family of more than 700 alumni, with alumni gatherings in New York City. Travel Residencies bring the program’s mission to communities in Sarasota, Palm Beach, Tel Aviv, and other locations. The PMP From Home page offers virtual concerts, recordings, and related content. One testimonial from the program states, “I believe that young people do best in an atmosphere in which they are being heard and not judged, where they take risks and try out new ideas.” The leadership team includes President and Founder Toby Perlman, with Itzhak Perlman leading a world-class faculty, and Bryan Keidel as the contact for press inquiries.
