Avalon Nature Preserve has permanently protected 216 acres on Long Island’s north shore, with 140 acres open to the public, including trails through five distinct habitats of meadows, woodlands, and shoreline. The mission of Avalon Nature Preserve includes habitat restoration, innovative management techniques, and collaboration with scientific communities to nurture and heal local ecosystems, with community outreach and youth programs for children of all ages as part of this work. Youth Programs are led by Kayla Serina for the Nature Initiative and Doug Elliot for Natural Connections.

Community involvement connected to the youth programs includes nature walks with the Audubon Society and partnerships with groups working on regenerative soil management and American Chestnut restoration at Birdsfoot Farm, as well as pollinator-focused work with OHoneyBeeFarm. The preserve also highlights conservation and regenerative farming practices at Birdsfoot Farm, including rotational grazing, silvopasture, no till, cover cropping, composting, pollinator habitat integration, and a Chestnut Grove project with 60 American Chestnut seedlings. An Avalon Nature Preserve App is available in the Apple App Store for visitors.
