The Children’s Department follows a philosophy of providing safe programmed care for school-age children during out-of-school time. The Jerome & Phyllis Charney Early Childhood Development Program serves children from 6 weeks through pre-kindergarten and offers a developmentally appropriate environment with a broad spectrum of experiences. The JCC’s primary goal for teen events is to gather teens of all ages to create new friendships in a safe, yet enjoyable, environment, and Youth Athletics classes are available for children ages 3 and up.
The Neulander Family Sports and Fitness Center uses certified fitness professionals and includes Precor cardio and circuit training equipment, a free weight room, Keiser M3 bikes, a collegiate-sized gymnasium, a banked indoor windowed track, two outdoor heated pools, and clean locker rooms. The fitness facility’s indoor workout areas are open to members for in-person workouts and personal training, and it offers group exercise classes such as Group Cycle, Muscle Sculpt, TRX, Yoga, NIA, and Senior Fit, as well as instructional ballroom dance, Latin dance, and adult tap. The Early Childhood Development Program is a four-star rated program.
The JCC of Syracuse offers membership to the community at large regardless of religious preferences and provides programs and services for infants, toddlers, school-age children, teens, adults, and seniors. With funding from the Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth, it provides affordable kosher meals to seniors aged 60 and over five days a week, and it offers Weekly Challah Sales with pickup at the JCC Main Office on Fridays between noon and 6 pm or delivery to children attending SHDS, ECDP, and the After-School Program when ordered and paid for by 10 am on the Wednesday prior. The JCC hosts community events such as KlezFest, a Writer’s Workshop, a special movie screening of the documentary Four Winters, lectures including the Golden Age of Hollywood Lecture, an AARP Smart Driver Course, and a Knit & Crochet-a-Thon in partnership with Temple Adath Yeshurun. The Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center will celebrate its 163rd Annual Meeting and Gala on June 7, and the JCC of Syracuse has received $1,000 from the Matthews Children’s Foundation.
