About
Flying Point Foundation for Autism offers an eight-day summer camp for children with autism alongside their typically developing siblings and peers. The program also runs social and recreational events, awards scholarships, and provides teacher grants and awareness seminars.
• Schedule: Eight-day summer camp
Founded in 2008, Flying Point Foundation for Autism reached its goal of starting a one-week summer day camp in August 2010, and in 2011 the camp session was extended to eight days with expanded enrollment. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to create and support programs and services that enrich the lives of those with autism, with a main focus on programs on the East End and raising public awareness and understanding of autism, especially among the peers of children who have been diagnosed. The foundation offers scholarships and teacher grants for a graduating senior with autism going to college or vocational school and for a typical student who has shown a commitment to the autism community through volunteerism. Future efforts include creating a community lifelong learning center for those with autism and other developmental differences. The leadership team includes Executive Director Kim Covell; a Board of Directors with Kerry Ann O’Connell (president), Donna Hannigan (vice president), Hilary Rewinski (secretary), Patricia Tuzzolo (treasurer), Nick Epley, and Sharon Schreiber; and Camp Director and FPFRec Director Meghan Lopez. Community involvement activities include donations of Go-Bags to the East Hampton Police and distribution of Go-Bags to help with emergencies, outreach to first responders, and participation in events such as the Kiwanis Golf Tournament on June 2.
