Youth Enrichment Services runs a Unity Ambassador Program where students from multiple school districts within the Islip Township learn about diversity and equity, how to challenge bias, and how to be an upstander to bullying, and hear from special guest speakers who share personal stories of overcoming prejudice and promoting a more inclusive environment. Student participants in the Unity Ambassador Program create a Unity Project Action Plan for their school and community and present it at the end of four sessions at Islip High School. Youth Enrichment Services collaborated with the Great South Bay Coalition, and Nichole Schmidt was instrumental as a founding member of the coalition in helping the organization secure a federal Drug Free Community Support grant addressing substance use and abuse in the Bayport, Blue Point, and Sayville communities. Youth Enrichment Services also participated in Islip Goes Purple, a month-long initiative designed to unite the Town of Islip in raising awareness of mental health and substance use disorder and in celebrating those in recovery.
Jamie Atkinson served on the Youth Enrichment Services Board of Directors for more than a decade and also served on the South Shore Community Organization Board of Directors, and he has served the communities of Sayville, Islip Township, and Suffolk County.
