About

The Pied Piper School offers music, art, theatre, physical education, outdoor play, and educational class time. Children take part in outdoor performances, theatre productions, presentations, and receptions throughout the year.

• Ages: 18 months–5 years old

The Pied Piper School has been educating children since 1979 and has been in business for more than 43 years. It began as a small music, art, and theatre program, and music and theatre remain at the core of the school, with children performing throughout the year for family and friends. The preschool programs use a multi-sensory approach to education that includes music, art, physical education, theatre, academics, and a language-rich environment, and the curriculum follows the New York State Core Curriculum for preschools to prepare students for kindergarten. The curriculum also emphasizes activities of daily living, pragmatic and social skills, appropriate group play, manners, and kindness.

The Pied Piper School welcomes children into two classrooms for two year olds, three classes for three year olds, and three classes for four year olds. The campus includes four outdoor play areas with a turf sports field and a basketball court, a large overhang that allows outdoor performances, theatre productions, and outdoor play in different weather, and a spacious patio with bench seating for presentations, receptions, and educational class time. The campus expanded in fall 2022 with three more classrooms, additional storage, a library, office space, a turf field, and a multi-season outdoor area covered by an overhang.

The Pied Piper School is a family-run business owned by the Dineen-Carey family and operated by Kathy, Max, and Molly Dineen-Carey. Founder Kathy Dineen and Co-Director Max Dineen-Carey, who became Co-Director in 2017, are part of the leadership team. The stated goal at Pied Piper is to make learning fun. The school offers options for half day, full day, and extended day hours and provides before and after school care for students within the Yorktown School District.

According to Founder Kathy Dineen, “The goal at Pied Piper is to make learning fun. There is a reason the Pied Piper has been around for 44 years and counting. When your child is at Pied Piper, they are treated as one of our own. They stay a part of the Pied Piper family for many years, attending before and after school care, returning to work at our summer camp program, or becoming one of the high school helpers within the after school program. Once a Piper, always a Piper!”
