The Pied Piper School has been educating children since 1979 and has continued to grow to meet the needs of new generations of children. The school houses two classrooms for two year olds, three classes for three year olds, and three classes for four year olds. The campus includes four outdoor play areas, a turf sports field, a basketball court, a large overhang for outdoor performances, theatre productions and outdoor play in all types of weather, and a spacious patio with bench seating for presentations, receptions, and educational class time. In fall 2022, the campus expanded with three more classrooms, storage, a library, office space, a turf field, and a multi-season outdoor area covered by an overhang.

The Pied Piper School is owned by the Dineen-Carey family and operated by Kathy, Max, and Molly Dineen-Carey. The program was opened by Kathy Dineen and Marsha McCoy, and Kathy’s son Max became Co-Director after Marsha retired in 2017. The program follows the New York State Core Curriculum for preschools to prepare students for kindergarten.

The goal at The Pied Piper School is to make learning fun, and the curriculum emphasizes activities of daily living, pragmatic and social skills, positive peer relationships, appropriate group play, manners, and kindness. The founders have kept the original vision of a fun, safe educational place for children to learn and grow, based on the principles that children come first, life is not fair, and dreams can come true if you work hard and believe.

The Pied Piper School provides before and after school care for students within the Yorktown School District. According to founder Kathy Dineen, when a child is at Pied Piper, they are treated as one of the school’s own, and many stay connected for years through before and after school care, summer camp work, or helping in the after school program.
