About
Summer Arts for Youth offers hands-on, creative exploration in the fine arts, including improvisation, theater games, acting methods, and producing a short show. Participants also spend time reading musical stories, singing, moving together, playing instruments, doing crafts, and learning music about other cultures.
• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Schedule: Multiple short summer sessions in June and July 2026, ranging from 3-morning camps to 5- and 6-day programs with daily hours between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
• Price: $95–$715, depending on program, length, and commuter or residential option
Summer Arts for Youth includes high-quality, community-driven programs from the Athens Community Music School and Tantrum Theater, along with medium-specific, exploratory offerings in Art + Design and Dance. Across the different programs, elementary and middle-school students work alongside practicing artists and performers from the university community and beyond. Faculty develop curriculum with different age groups and experience levels in mind. Tantrum Theater drama camps culminate in an informal performance open to the public, and students in these camps are placed in a group according to their age. Junior Summer Music Academy and the Junior Summer Dance Intensive each offer an overnight stay with housing and meals, while the Athens Community Music School Summer Music Week for ages 4–6 is a shorter, three-morning music camp and the Summer Music Week for ages 6–12 is a music-based day camp for rising 1st through 6th graders. Lunch is not provided, and families are instructed to send a non-refrigerated lunch and beverage for their child.
