Summer Drama Camps gives participants time each day to practice acting, dancing, singing, and improvisation. Young people in the camps take part in these theatre activities as part of a structured summer program.

Magical Theatre Company, which runs Summer Drama Camps, is an award-winning company founded in 1972 to provide high quality professional theatre for young audiences. Magical Theatre Company is the original professional theatre for young audiences and families in Northeast Ohio and performs professional theatre in Barberton, Ohio’s historic Park Theatre. All camps are staffed by experienced professional directors and actors devoted to bringing out the best in children and teens. Magical Theatre Company’s resident productions, workshops, touring shows, camps and educational programming are created to introduce young people to theatre, provide positive messages through drama, develop creativity, increase communication skills, build teamwork and offer alternative methods to problem-solving. The company’s shows and performances reach 50,000 children and their families each year, covering one-fourth of the state of Ohio. Holly and Dennis continued the same mission to provide professional theatre for young audiences and families. The company’s mission is to enhance learning, growth and civic improvement through professional theatre for young audiences and families. In 2019 Barberton Community Foundation awarded Magical Theatre Company the Game Changer Award; in 2010 Peg’s Foundation awarded the inaugural Impact Award for Imagination; and in 2003 Magical Theatre Company received two awards for outreach from the Akron Area Arts Alliance and Summit County Housing Network.
Each child in Summer Drama Camps must bring a packed lunch and something to drink and will not be permitted to walk anywhere to buy food. Campers should also bring a water bottle filled with ice water every day. Children will be asked to provide their own shorts and tennis shoes and should wear comfortable clothes they can move around in, with no sandals, clogs or flip-flops.
