Teachers and staff undergo extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, and they are trained in first aid and CPR. Teachers and staff members are trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and criminal background checks are conducted for staff. The program states that Champions has a solution for busy working families that combines activities with fun and learning, together with the safety and convenience of a high-quality program right inside the school.

The program includes a variety of group and individual activities and a balance of child-initiated and teacher-led activities. It focuses on helping children continue learning and developing essential life skills whether school is in session or not. At some sites, the Winter Break program may spotlight science, reptiles, or stage production, and families can attend the Winter Break program one day or every day.

All children must be signed in and out on a paper-based roster and/or computer system, and only pre-approved people with photo identification may pick up a child, with written authorization required before a child is released to anyone. Families are asked to refrain from posting photos or videos that contain images of children other than their own on the Internet. To authorize staff to give prescription or non-prescription medications or apply topical non-prescription medications, a form from the site must be completed, and a doctor's note is required for any medication for any child under the age of 2.

The program has a wellness screening located near the Family Communication Area, and only authorized staff and families may enter sites. All sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and staff clean with safe, non-toxic cleaning products and sanitize high-touch items and surfaces throughout the day. Most sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks, with meal service varying from site to site, and menus in sites that provide meal service satisfy applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines.

Outdoor play is supervised and conducted only on safe, secure outdoor play spaces available at the school or program location. Each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently, and an emergency plan and list of procedures are posted in each classroom. The National Support Center has a crisis team that supports each center during and after emergencies.
