The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District was created in 1972, after originally being formed as the Sugarcreek Township Park District in 1970. In 1983, the Sugarcreek Park Board and the Bellbrook Park Board combined to form the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District. In 1990, the Sugarcreek Ski Lodge and 4 acres were donated to the Park District, and in 1991 the Park District renovated the Ski Lodge and developed the Community Center, giving the Park District its first offices and the ability to offer programming to the community. In 2011, the City of Bellbrook deeded the title of Bellbrock and Petrikis Parks to the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District. The Park District owns and/or manages numerous parks totaling approximately 670 acres in the City of Bellbrook and Sugarcreek Township, and it acquired 30 acres on Washington Mill Road, now known as Washington Mill Park, from the Koogler Family, with an additional 5 acres later donated by the family.

The Park District is governed by three Park Commissioners appointed by the Greene County Common Pleas Court. Park districts are created by citizens to preserve open space, protect natural areas, and to provide recreation opportunities and learning. Online registration is offered for all programs, events, and other activities, and the online reservation system can be used to check park shelter reservations. The Park District is always looking for volunteers interested in supporting local community events, programs, and park district improvement projects, and these volunteer opportunities are available for adults, students, scout groups, organizations, and families.
