About
Clifton Cultural Arts Center Classes and Camps take place in a 20,000 square foot, sustainably built community arts center that includes classroom, gallery, and performance space, along with a green rooftop terrace. The program is part of a collaborative, regional arts center that focuses on creative and artistic expression for children and adults.
• Schedule: Free outdoor concerts are offered all summer long.
The Clifton Cultural Arts Center was conceived in 2002, formed as an emergent non-profit arts organization in 2004, and opened in August 2008. Phase 1 renovations were completed in 2010 and Phase 2 renovations were completed in 2014. CCAC’s annual attendance surpassed 40,000 in 2015. In 2017, Cincinnati Public Schools decided to re-open the Clifton Neighborhood School in 2019, which ended CCAC’s long-term lease on the historic Clifton School building, and CCAC moved offices into Turner Hall in 2018. CCAC planned to open a new building in 2023, and on March 9, 2024, it opened the first purpose-built community arts center in the city of Cincinnati.
The organization’s mission states that it is a collaborative, regional arts center fueled by a shared passion and the belief that the collective experience of creative and artistic expression brings together diverse communities and nurtures more inspired, more insightful children and adults. Leadership has included Founding Executive Director Ruth Dickey, hired in 2008, and Second Executive Director Leslie Mooney.
CCAC is described as a community hub for discovery, expression, belonging, and connection, and as an inclusive place where people from many backgrounds come to learn, share, create, and inspire. Neighbors, volunteers, activists, and community leaders from Clifton, Uptown, and across Cincinnati joined together to create the center. CCAC is described as an essential thread in Cincinnati’s arts community, a hub for Uptown communities, and an aspiring regional destination for classes, concerts, events, and exhibits.
The center offers free and low-cost programming, including free outdoor concerts all summer long, and its Art Education for All program provides scholarships for students in need. The building features a two-story glass-front art gallery, multi-purpose classrooms, performance and meeting space, and a green rooftop terrace.
CCAC has received several recognitions, including the Donald & Marian Spencer Spirit of America Award from the Cincinnatus Association in May 2022 for contributions to creating greater inclusion and promoting diversity in Greater Cincinnati. Its Wednesdays on the Green concert series was named “Best of the City: Best Family Music Night” by Cincinnati Magazine in 2012. Uptown Consortium honored CCAC as “Best Small Nonprofit” in the five Uptown neighborhoods in 2012. The Golden Ticket juried art exhibition received a record 333 entries across fine arts disciplines in 2016, and the historic Clifton School building, former home of CCAC, was named to Heritage Ohio’s 2009 Top 10 Opportunities list.
