Summer Theatre Camp and Performance Academy

Summer Theatre Camp and Performance Academy offers theatre camps, performance showcases, and performance academies. Campers learn musical theatre, stage combat, writing, acting, rehearsal, and performance, and the programs include informal Shareformances, showcases without sets, props, or costumes, and final performances with limited sets and costumes. Everyone who registers receives a role, and prior experience in theatre is not required.

Programs

• Summer Theatre Camp and Performance Academy — Campers entering grades 1-6 or 6-12; source also states camps are for ages 5-17 · Summer camp programs at the Playhouse’s mainstage theatre complex in Eden Park/Mt. Adams and Mason Community Center. Includes theatre camps, performance showcases, and performance academies.
• Theatre Camps — Campers entering grades 1-6 or 1-10 · One week · Campers focus on the fundamentals of creating theatre; ends with an informal Shareformance.
• Performance Showcases — Campers entering grades 6-12 · One week · Campers explore theatrical skills with an emphasis on performance and storytelling techniques; concludes with a showcase without sets, props, or costumes.
• Performance Academies — Campers entering grades 1-6 or 6-12 · Two weeks · Campers work together to produce a single play or musical from start to finish; includes a final performance with limited sets and costumes.

• General schedule: Summer camp programs take place at the Playhouse’s mainstage theatre complex in Eden Park/Mt. Adams and Mason Community Center. Before Care and After Care are available for purchase. Before Care at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is 8–9 a.m.; After Care is 4–5:30 p.m. Before Care Mason is 7:30–9 a.m.; After Care Mason is 4–5:30 p.m.
• Facility hours: Box office hours are listed as Monday 12 p.m.–5 p.m.; Tuesday–Saturday 12 p.m.–8 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m.–2:30 p.m. On non-performance days, the Box Office closes at 5 p.m.

About the provider

The Playhouse says its education programming builds confidence, strengthens communication skills, and develops a sense of community. It also states that its mission is to encourage creativity through awesome stories.

• Launch Pad Accessibility Program — Helps campers with developmental disabilities, neurodivergence, and sensory challenges participate in camp.

Full and partial-tuition scholarships are available to campers who demonstrate financial need; awards are limited and based on need and space available. Launch Pad is for campers with developmental disabilities, neurodivergence, and sensory challenges. After Care ends at 5:30 p.m.; late pickup incurs a charge of $5 for every 10-minute increment past closing time. Mason Community Center Before Care and After Care is run by and sold through Mason Community Center. School-based classes are only available for students currently enrolled in those schools.
