About

Safety Village is a five day safety awareness camp that uses music, crafts, videos, books, community speakers, and a child-sized town to teach safety lessons. Children take part in activities such as learning the proper way to cross the street, buckle their seat belt, wear a helmet while riding a bicycle, and follow basic traffic rules. The program also includes stranger danger safety lessons, water safety lessons, fire safety lessons, riding the school bus, and how to dial 911.

• Ages: 5 years old
• Schedule: Five day camp with morning or afternoon sessions offered
• Price: The camp will cost $100 per person. Price includes the 5-day camp, snacks, and a shirt.

Safety Village 2026 will occur August 3rd–7th with morning sessions from 9–11:30am and afternoon sessions from 1–3:30pm. All spots for Safety Village 2026 have been filled and a waitlist is available. Safety Village is associated with the Mariemont Preschool Parents Group (MPPG) and uses community speakers as part of the program.

Safety Village camp will be led by a Safety Village camp teacher, along with student volunteer camp counselors and MPPG Committee Co-Chairs. Safety Village Committee Co-Chairs are Jenn Miller and Lisa Remer. The AM Camp Teacher is Christie Motz, who taught kindergarten in Mason City Schools for 9 years before leaving to stay home with her children and who recently published a children’s book. The PM Camp Teacher is Hannah Donnelly, who has a background in special education and educational advocacy.
