About

Camp Joy Outdoor School Programs offer outdoor school experiences that include Environmental Awareness, Cultural History, and Adventure. The programs are part of Camp Joy’s broader Outdoor School Programs and experiential offerings for youth and adults.

Camp Joy’s mission is “Helping people grow and succeed through life-long experience based learning.” Camp Joy has been changing lives for more than 80 years, with its founding in 1937 by the St. Barnabus Episcopal Church. In 1948, Camp Joy embraced racial integration of its summer camp, and in 1952 it began co-ed camping. Year-round outdoor education programming began in 1972 and eventually evolved into the Outdoor School Program. In 1984, Camp Joy introduced the region to adventure programming for youth and adults. In 1997, Camp Joy dedicated its swimming pool to serve more youth with challenging medical conditions. The P&G Learning Center, built in 1998, provides indoor program space and a home for the administration, and the Recreation Center, opened in 2005, houses youth programming year-round, particularly in inclement weather. In 2006, Camp Joy launched the “Building for Inclusion” Initiative to fund projects to better serve those with special, medical, and physical disability needs. In 2012, Camp Joy launched its 75th Anniversary Campaign. Today, Camp Joy reports serving more than 13,000 guests annually through its experiential programs. Chelsie is listed as a contact person for Camp Joy, with phone number (419) 575-4812.
