About

JCC of Greater Columbus Youth Recreation Programs take place within a larger center that includes an auditorium, bowling alley, basketball courts, a swimming pool, classrooms, and a sauna. Youth programs also use the Zusman Center, which has a multi-purpose room, changing and restrooms, a nurse’s office, an art room, and a Sprayground water playground with spray jets and fountains. Additional youth recreation space is supported by a 16,000 square foot expansion that increases fitness, sports, and community gathering space for young people and adults.

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus describes its mission as offering a varied program that is Jewish in nature and committed to enhancing the quality of individual and family life through the promotion of physical, intellectual, and spiritual wellness. It states that it provides educational and cultural programs that reflect Jewish heritage, health-related activities, and many services to the community at large, and that through its wide array of programs it pursues a mission of strengthening the individual, family, and community. The organization reports that it has served Columbus’ Jewish community since 1913 and notes milestones such as the establishment of Camp Schonthal in 1927, construction and openings of multiple center buildings and expansions between 1949 and 2012, the launch of its Virtual J platform in March 2020, and the start of the Our J. Our Future. capital campaign in June 2024, which includes the Andrew Ethan Stern Pickleball Complex and the Sam Baker Aquatics Complex with a zero depth entry pool and water slides. The JCC reports that it serves more than 6,500 members from about 3,800 households in Central Ohio and identifies itself as a community partner of JewishColumbus, serving both the Jewish and greater Columbus community. It also notes that Charity Navigator has awarded the organization four out of four stars, and that it uses tools such as the Virtual J platform and Traction Rec CRM for virtual programming and program registrations, scheduling, purchasing personal training packages, account overviews, and building access.
