About

Columbus Spanish Place - Children's Spanish Programs offers Spanish classes at children's schools, Spanish classes at its own location, Saturday children's classes, summer children's programs, and children's private classes. The program also offers adult group classes, private classes, corporate classes, classes for medical and police professionals, ESL instruction, study abroad, and both translation and interpretation services. Classes use 100% immersion methodology for both children and adults and focus on conversational Spanish and on understanding and speaking Spanish.

• Price: Group classes are $16 per hour

Classes are taught by experienced, native instructors, and Spanish instruction is provided by 100% fluent Spanish speakers in an immersion setting. The program uses a carefully planned curriculum in a small class setting, with an informal, welcoming setting and small groups. Activity-based, age-appropriate activities for either adults or children are a part of every class. The leadership team includes Director Marcela Salgar (Colombia). The Columbus Spanish Place is an Ohio business that started together with locations in Cincinnati in 2004 and Cleveland in 2011.

Columbus Spanish Place states that its mission is to serve English- and Spanish-speakers with products and services that offer educational, linguistic, cultural, social, and communication benefits. The mission includes serving adults, children, and organizations through Spanish instruction, translation, ESL instruction, interpretation, social networking, study abroad, and print, broadcast, and online publishing, and to bring people together while encouraging tolerance, understanding, and exploration of new languages, cultures, and ideas.

The program partners with local schools and provides Spanish classes at different schools and preschools. It offers programming for children through area schools. It also offers local translation and interpretation services, including Spanish interpretation services in person throughout the Columbus area or over the phone.

Parent and student comments describe teachers as “absolutely AMAZING” and “very patient” and say that classes are “very interactive” and “engaging, exciting, and most importantly developmentally appropriate.” One parent reports that a child who disliked Spanish at first later “couldn’t wait” for class and came home with new words to teach the family. Other comments note small classes, more chances to speak, teachers from different Spanish-speaking countries, and that having native teachers brings out “a cultural aspect that shines through.”
