YMCA Before & After School Child Care programs have served children in Central Ohio for more than 36 years, since 1989. All programs meet or exceed Ohio Department of Children and Youth licensing requirements, and many are also Star-Rated in Ohio’s Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) quality rating system. Children participate in community projects such as toy drives, holiday food and gift giving, family events, and pet shelter support.
All staff meet Ohio Department of Children and Youth requirements for education, training, and experience, and complete specialized training to meet state licensing safety training requirements as well as annual specialized professional development courses. All staff must pass background checks including FBI and BCI fingerprints, the National Child Abuse Registry, and National and State Sex Offender Registry checks. The program is guided by the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and includes children of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities.
Y-Club includes daily physical activity of 30–45 minutes following Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) guidelines. The program offers structured academic time Monday–Thursday for reading or homework supported by Y-Club teachers and focuses on social and emotional learning areas such as self-awareness, self-management, optimism, relationship-building, and decision-making. Y-Club emphasizes belonging, achievement, and relationships (Raising the BAR for Youth) and offers custom programs tailored to meet the needs of families and communities.
Families have access to No-Cost Extended Services on late start and early release days, as well as year-round full-day programs, including School Days Off during holidays and spring break and Day Camp during the summer. Y-Club offers financial assistance with income-based pricing using a sliding fee scale and Y Member Pricing on YMCA programs such as swim lessons and youth sports for Y-Club participants. The program places emphasis on creativity and family engagement through open houses, surveys, parent/child activities, newsletters, daily notes, parent meetings, community resources, volunteer opportunities, family events, advisory councils, program surveys, advocacy, and learning opportunities.
