YMCA Before & After School Child Care programs, which include YMCA School Days Off, have served children in Central Ohio for more than 36 years, since 1989. The program is part of Y-Club, the YMCA’s Before & After School Child Care program, and also connects to year-round options such as School Days Off during holidays and spring break and Day Camp during the summer. Children and families can take part in community and service projects such as toy drives, holiday food and gift giving, family events, and pet shelter support, and families can engage through open houses, surveys, parent/child activities, newsletters, daily notes, parent meetings, volunteer opportunities, and advisory councils.
All programs meet or exceed Ohio Department of Children and Youth licensing requirements, and many are also Star-Rated in Ohio’s Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) quality rating system. Staff meet all Ohio Department of Children and Youth training, education and experience requirements, pass background checks including FBI and BCI fingerprints, National Child Abuse Registry, and National and State Sex Offender Registry, complete specialized safety training required for state licensing, and complete annual specialized professional development courses. The organization states that inclusion is at the heart of everything it does and that it welcomes children of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities. The YMCA describes its mission as joining individuals together with a shared commitment to strengthen communities by empowering kids, improving individual and community well-being, and inspiring action to meet needs in the communities it serves.
