• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Office hours Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM; Cub Scout dens meet weekly, with all dens and family members gathering once a month for a pack meeting
The council’s stated goal is to be the premier leader in youth development for central and southern Ohio as well as Greenup County, Kentucky, and it follows Scouting America’s mission to build character, train young people in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develop personal fitness. Simon Kenton Council is one of the largest councils in the nation, serving 18 counties in central and southern Ohio and Greenup County in northern Kentucky, and serves boys and girls ages 5–20 living in urban, rural, and suburban areas. The council is staffed by more than 25 professional and administrative Scouters, with more than 4,500 adult volunteers delivering the Scouting program to nearly 9,000 youth. Cub Scout packs include Lion Cubs (kindergartners), Tiger Cubs (first-graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second-graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third-graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth- and fifth-graders), while Scouts BSA is a year-round activity for youth age 11–17, with some 10-year-olds eligible under specific conditions. Venturing serves young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age, and Exploring is a career education program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) or 15 to 21 years old, based on career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.
Simon Kenton Council is joined by about 300 charter partner organizations that sponsor Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, and Exploring Posts in the council. At least 1,000 youth participate in the council’s ScoutReach program, which delivers the full Scouting program at little to no cost to the Scout’s family, and through stipend program aids, ScoutReach is delivered after school in partnership with Columbus City Schools. Local community organizations establish Venturing crews and initiate Explorer posts by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The council maintains and operates four year-round camps that include 1,152 acres of woods, forests, ponds, trails, and camping sites, and offers a Scout Registration and Uniform Scholarship program so that financial need does not stand between a youth and their Scouting journey. National Jamboree 2026 is described by the council as an epic gathering that happens only once every four years, and in 2025 Simon Kenton Council launched a five-year strategic plan with a goal to double Scouting and serve 20,000 youth by 2029.
