About

DYA Recreational Basketball offers basketball leagues that include 3-on-3 games in Introductory Leagues and 5-on-5 games in Developmental and Relaxed Competitive Leagues. Players take part in organized practices and games that follow set season dates and game formats for each grade level.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Seasons run from October or November through late February, with specific date ranges including October 21–February 21 or 28, November 10–February 28, and December 6 or 7–February 21 or 28.
• Price: $135–$185 per season, plus $25 for a jersey if needed, with an additional $20 added after the registration closing date.

In the 1st–2nd Grade Introductory League, games are 3-on-3 with one coach for every six players, and everyone plays. In the 3rd–6th Grade Boys and 3rd–5th Grade Girls Developmental Leagues, and in the Relaxed Competitive Leagues for 7th–12th Grade Boys and 6th–12th Grade Girls, games are 5-on-5 and everyone plays. A DYA representative is on site for coordination in the Introductory Leagues, and kindergartners born on or before 8/1/2019 may participate in the 1st Grade division.

Season structures vary by grade, with combinations of practices, regular season games, and postseason tournaments. 1st–2nd Grade Boys and Girls have 10 practices and games held back-to-back on Saturdays beginning December 6. 3rd Grade Boys and Girls have 15 practices and 10 games, with weekly 1-hour weeknight practices starting the week of October 20 and Saturday games beginning December 6. 4th–6th Grade Boys and 4th–5th Grade Girls have 15 practices, 9 regular season games, and a postseason tournament, with weeknight practices starting the week of October 20, Saturday games beginning December 6, and postseason tournaments February 17–28. 6th–8th Grade Girls and 7th–8th Grade Boys each have 12 practices, 9 regular season games, and a postseason tournament, with weeknight practices starting the week of November 10, games beginning December 6 or 7, and postseason tournaments February 17–28. 9th–12th Grade Boys and Girls each have 9 regular season games and a postseason tournament, with boys’ games on Saturdays beginning December 6 and girls’ games on Sundays beginning December 7. There are no practices or games during Winter Break from December 22 through January 5, and Picture Day is scheduled on specific Saturdays in December for designated boys’ and girls’ leagues.

All players are required to wear the green/white DYA Basketball reversible jersey for league play, which costs $25 and is the same as in prior years, with youth and adult sizes available. Recommended basketball sizes are 27.5" for 1st–2nd Grade Introductory Leagues, 28.5" for 3rd–8th Grade Boys and 3rd–12th Grade Girls, and 29.5" for 9th–12th Grade Boys. Basket height is 8 feet for 1st–2nd Grade Boys and 1st–3rd Grade Girls Leagues and 10 feet for all other leagues.

Teams are assigned by the league office, and DYA will honor up to two teammate requests and one coach request per player, with teammate requests required to be mutual. Every effort is made to honor teammate and coach requests in the 9th–12th Grade Boys and Girls Leagues, and families are notified of team placement, roster, and schedule after preseason coaches’ meetings. Friday evening open gyms are available for coaches by request in the 9th–12th Grade Boys and Girls Leagues. If a child trying out for a middle school or high school basketball team makes their school team, a refund is issued.

Financial assistance is available through the DYA Financial Assistance Program for families that qualify. DYA states that any child who wants to play can play. Dublin Youth Athletics offers mid-tier travel teams at affordable rates in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and softball, and recreational programs leverage high school programs for assistance in training younger athletes.

Dublin Youth Athletics was founded in 1956 and is a 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit organization. The organization is a community recreation and travel sports organization and is a joint effort of parent volunteers, the City of Dublin’s Recreation Services Department, and Dublin City Schools. DYA collaborates with high school sports booster clubs to promote camps and fundraisers, and DYA Travel & Select programs collaborate with high school programs and hire Dublin High School students to help with training and field preparation. DYA provides a yearly High School Scholarship Award to one graduating senior at each Dublin High School and is the primary source of athletes to the sports programs at the Dublin middle and high schools. Dublin Youth Athletics is a volunteer organization of parents providing sports programs for kids, and its mission statement is “Providing our youth, the opportunity to have fun and grow through sports.” The leadership team includes Mitchell Briant, Executive Director; Scott Kilgren, Athletic Director–Finance & Data; and Johnhenry Coughlin, Athletic Director.
