Hawken School, which runs Hawken Summer Programs, was founded in 1915. The summer programs are led by Joy Whitlow, Director of Auxiliary Programs, and Clarence Bonner, Director of Summer Camp and Director of Transportation. Hawken School states that its mission is to prepare students to navigate a complex and dynamic world with self-confidence and determination, embrace challenges with disciplined analysis and creativity, and engage others with empathy and integrity. Hawken School is fully accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) and is officially approved by the State of Ohio, holding charters as both an elementary and a secondary school. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, Ohio Association of Independent Schools, Cleveland Council of Independent Schools, Global Online Academy, Cum Laude Society, School and Student Service for Financial Aid, Ohio High School Athletic Association, Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, and University Circle, Inc.
