Camp Wyandot, Inc. was founded as a Camp Fire Council in 1913, became an Ohio nonprofit corporation in 1928, and purchased Camp Wyandot in the Hocking Hills that same year. As of April 30, 2013, Camp Wyandot, Inc. became an independent non-profit organization and is no longer affiliated with Camp Fire, and it is celebrating its 98th continuous year of operation. Camp Wyandot serves boys and girls with summer day and overnight camps and the Wyandot Explorers program, with Camp Wyandot Day Camp (Camp Otonwe Day Camp) focused on nature and outdoor activities in the area north of New Albany and Westerville, and Camp Wyandot Overnight Camp focused on nature and outdoor activities in the Hocking Hills.

Camp Wyandot, Inc. is an independent nonprofit camp, and volunteer awards are granted yearly at the Annual Meeting to recognize volunteers. Its mission states that Camp Wyandot is more than a summer camp location, describing it as an accepting, inviting, and fun place that brings people together, where children and adults are celebrated for their individuality while learning to work together, and where activities such as archery, swimming, boating, and hiking give children the opportunity to disconnect from technology and reconnect to nature in a safe and nurturing environment.

Camp Wyandot, Inc. gathers stakeholders each year for an Annual Luncheon to celebrate, learn, and support the camp program, and Campership scholarships are provided for many children who would not have had the opportunity to be in nature otherwise. Volunteer opportunities include office assistance, help with bulk mailings, participating in Spring and Fall Workdays to clean up and prepare camp, consulting on fundraising, programming, and marketing, helping with events such as the Annual Luncheon, Halloween in the Hills, Donor Appreciation, and Alumni Weekend, and securing donations of time or products from businesses. Camp Wyandot, Inc. also hosts a free 22nd Annual Luncheon in October 2026 at the Aladdin Shrine Center in Grove City.

Parent and alumni comments describe Camp Wyandot as a place of refuge, community, and friendship, and note that Campership scholarships are provided for many children who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to be in nature. One parent reports that a 10-year-old camper “had a BLAST—even with COVID-19 precautions,” loved the counselors, made friends, and already wants to return. Other testimonials describe Camp Wyandot as shaping childhood, being “more than a summer camp location,” and, in one person’s words, “the best place ever” and “a perfect Summer Camp experience.”
