Creative Playrooms Montessori and Child Care Centers has been a part of the greater Cleveland community for over 50 years and is part of the Early Learning Academies (ELA) family, a network of early childhood learning centers led by childcare professionals. The program uses a play-based, Montessori, and Reggio Emilia approach to learning and offers both traditional preschool and a Montessori preschool program, with a Montessori Program for children 3–6 years of age at the Strongsville location. Teachers are credentialed in the Montessori philosophy, are trained in First-Aid and CPR, have undergone state background checks, and are selected for their experience and training in early childhood education and child development. The centers are fully licensed childcare centers with accredited programs, participate in Step Up To Quality (Ohio’s rating and improvement system), and are described as an award-winning child care provider in the Cleveland area of Northeast Ohio.
Most locations provide hot meals and snacks, have cafeteria-like lunch rooms (with the exception of the Independence location), and offer on-site swimming pools with lifeguards, as well as expansive outdoor play spaces. The program uses secure sign-in/out technology with real-time attendance information, the Smartcare childcare system for immediate parent notification of urgent situations, and entrances that are monitored by staff or cameras and require passcodes or QR codes for entry; staff also participate in regular emergency preparedness training and drills. The Strongsville location includes a tuition-free, public charter school serving grades K–2 at the on-site Strongsville Academy, and Strongsville and Brunswick City Schools serve the Strongsville center. Activities across classrooms include sensory experiences like Mirror Play, Pudding Fun, Puppets, and Hard/Soft and Fuzzy; gross motor play such as Kick the Ball, Crawling, Stacking Blocks, Bowling, and Rolling the Ball; fine motor tasks like Puzzles, Cheerio Pick-Up, Color the Circle, and Tissue Toss; and audio/visual activities such as Beat the Drum, Body Awareness, Clapping, and Animal Sounds. Additional projects include Language Arts work such as Letter Review, Counting, Matching the Mittens, and letters P, Q, R, and S with number practice and beginning rhyming; Practical Life activities such as Mechanic, Princesses, Snowplower, and Set the Table; Manipulatives like Connectors, Building Towers, and Lincoln Logs; and art projects such as Snow Drip, At the Big Top, Animal Dotter, My Family, Snow Paint, Snowman Decorations, Cat Print Painting, Clay Tea Cups, Party Hats, and Tye-Dye Paint.
One parent, Angela S., states that teachers are wonderful and have worked there for years, that rooms are spacious and clean, that the Montessori program is phenomenal, that the baby room is beautiful, and that it is “just all around a fantastic place to take your children,” adding that the center seems to take pride in understanding how important it is for parents to have confidence in the place where they entrust their children.
