The camp uses a 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio, and campers are grouped by ability, age, and experience at the director’s discretion. Campers at multi-day camps receive a Nike Basketball Camp t-shirt and other prizes.
The camp is directed by Kyle Pottkotter, who is the Nike Basketball Camp Director for all Ohio locations and the founder of One Five Sports. He began hosting and directing Nike Basketball Camps in central Ohio in 2008. He ended a 13-year college coaching career that included positions at The College of Wooster, Denison University, and Otterbein University. At The College of Wooster, the team went 71–14 over three years, won two North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, and advanced to the NCAA Championships twice, including a trip to the Sweet 16. While there, he helped coach two All-Americans, including one NCAA Division III National Player of the Year, and was mentored by Head Coach Steve Moore, who ranks in the top five in both wins and winning percentage in NCAA Division III history. At Denison University, within three years the team more than doubled its win total prior to his arrival, earned the right to host a conference tournament game, and he helped recruit and coach Denison’s all-time leading scorer; he also served as Head Men’s Golf Coach. At Otterbein University, in three years the Cardinals doubled their win total, and he helped coach the OAC’s leading scorer and rebounder. He earned a B.A. in History from Denison University in 1999 and an M.S.S in Sport Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2002.
The camp uses a teaching progression with an emphasis on 3-on-3 competitions, drills, skill work, and fundamentals. Throughout the week, there is an emphasis on understanding spacing and movement away from the ball during 3-on-3 play, along with the use of various dribble and pass restrictions to encourage effective player and ball movement. There is a daily emphasis on individual development, team play, and basketball IQ, along with in-depth discussions on situational play, including time and game management.
Parent feedback notes that small team scrimmages were helpful and that campers described the competitions as fun. Parents report that 3 on 3 games, skills competitions, and the skills evaluation at the end of camp were highlights, and that comparing evaluations from different years showed how their child was progressing. Parents also describe a coaching staff and atmosphere that exemplified good team support and sportsmanship, and note that campers were challenged, moved up according to their skill set, motivated, and had fun. Feedback also mentions that campers learned new skills, improved on others, made new friends, and enjoyed the whole experience.
