Jorge Gurgel Mixed Martial Arts Academy has been operating for 25 years. The academy offers programs for kids and adults of any experience level and holds daily classes ranging from morning to evening. The kids program is described as being for ages 5–11, and adult programs are open to ages 12 and up. The academy was founded by MMA champion Jorge Gurgel, who is originally from Fortaleza, Brazil, and who earned a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Marcus Aurélio. Instructors at the academy have decades of experience training and teaching at high levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts. The leadership and coaching team includes Professor Jorge Gurgel, Professor D'Andre, Coach Chris Hale “Smoke,” Coach Shope, Coach Nate, Coach Anna, Coach Lindsay, Coach Darcie, Coach Gary M., Coach Jacob, Coach Joe Duffy, and Coach Stan Owens as Jiu-Jitsu coaches; Sensei Markus West and Sensei Kameron Williams as Judo coaches; and Coach Will, Coach Zane McMullin, Coach Rich Walden, Coach Hannah, and Coach Nick as Muay Thai coaches.
