Buckeye Gymnastics has served over 50,000 central Ohio families since it opened its doors nearly 30 years ago. Its mission is to develop the talents and abilities of its students, to support the dreams and aspirations of its athletes, and to teach the fun of physical movement as it prepares children for a lifetime of physical activity. The program states that children should be participants and not observers and that instruction focuses on the successful accomplishment of small steps so that an expectation of success and enjoyment is fostered. Buckeye Gymnastics states that every child has talents and abilities and that its mission is to help students develop them.
Buckeye Gymnastics uses experts who train top athletes, including an Olympian and a World Championships coach, to train the entire staff on technique, drills, and progressions. Every student receives professional instruction from teachers who are described as experienced, extensively trained, background checked, and child centered. Buckeye Gymnastics offers both recreational and competitive gymnastics and cheerleading, including all-star cheerleading through Buckeye Cheer Elite. Buckeye Cheer Elite (BCE) All Stars is a competitive cheerleading program for girls and boys ages 18 and under and requires an audition, while Buckeye Cheer Star (BCS) Programs are a non-select recreation version of the traditional all-star team with fewer training hours, less frequent competitions, and lower costs. The program offers 100% money back for new families and students who notify in writing within the first two weeks of enrollment. Buckeye Gymnastics has probably taught more children how to perform back handsprings than any other program in Ohio.
The leadership team includes Jo M., Director of Buckeye Gymnastics in Westerville; Laura M., Director of Buckeye Gymnastics in Powell; Scott R., Director of Buckeye Gymnastics in Westerville; and Jen H., Director of BCE / Buckeye Cheer in Powell, with David Holcomb as owner and guiding light at Buckeye Gymnastics. Buckeye Gymnastics serves the communities of Westerville, Worthington, Powell, Dublin, New Albany, Sunbury, Lewis Center, Gahanna, Northland, and more.
David Holcomb received the USA Gymnastics Business Leader Award in 2002 and again in 2007. Buckeye Gymnastics is described as the largest gymnastics program in Central Ohio and the most successful gymnastics program in the State of Ohio. The program has won numerous National Titles, has competed in over a dozen countries, has traveled and competed in 38 of the 50 states, and has sent scores of athletes off to college with full scholarships. The gym owner, David Holcomb, has presented over 200 lectures at Regional and National Congress for USA Gymnastics in the past decade.
For classes, gymnasts are encouraged to wear a leotard, with options such as short or long sleeves and unitards, and they can also wear shorts or leggings on top of the leotard. If a leotard is not available, shorts with no buttons or zips paired with a t-shirt are suitable alternatives.
