The USA Softball Junior Olympic Program includes softball through league play, tournament play, clinics, seminars, and training courses. The program is part of a larger USA Softball structure that promotes and conducts annual amateur softball championships and educates and trains in the proper skills of amateur softball play and rules of the game through organized clinics, seminars, and training courses. USA Softball sanctions competition in every state through a network of state and metro associations, and its membership base has been built from thousands of local recreational softball leagues throughout the United States.
USA Softball is the National Governing Body of softball in the United States and is comprised of 10 regions that span across the country. USA Softball has grown to over 120,000 teams, representing a membership of more than one million. The leadership connected to the USA Softball Junior Olympic Program includes roles such as USA Softball President, Past-President, President-Elect, Commissioners, youth (JO) Commissioner, Umpire-in-Chief (UIC), At-Large-Player Representative, Elite Athlete Representatives, and an At-Large Director. The stated mission is to provide opportunities for participation through competition, education and leadership with a commitment to promote the growth and development of the sport. USA Softball establishes and maintains, by allied membership, alliances with nonprofit associations or organizations devoted wholly or partially to the promotion and development of the game of softball on a state, regional, or national level. Softball was invented in November 1887 in Chicago, Illinois, and USA Softball celebrates a 90th anniversary milestone.
