About
U.S. Kids Golf Tournaments and Local Tours offers competitive golf through tournaments and Local Tours. Players take part in events that use shorter tees based on age and gender to “scale the course,” and parent caddies are strongly encouraged and permitted during tournaments. Players ages 5 to 14 compete in their local community and can advance to State, Regional, and World Championships, including a pinnacle World Championship held each year in late July.
• Ages: 5–14 years old
U.S. Kids Golf, LLC was started in 1996 and is led by Founder and President Dan Van Horn, who is a former golf professional and engineer. More than 1600 tournaments are organized yearly in over 60 markets in the United States, and two-day events such as State Invitational tournaments and Regional Championships are ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard. At each competitive level, players may earn Priority Status to gain entry into more challenging events.
The U.S. Kids Golf Family Tee program is partnered with the PGA of America, and more than 1500 courses in the United States have Forward Tee locations for kids and families. The Forward Tees concept evolved into the Family Tee program, and Longleaf Golf & Family Club is treated as a living laboratory for growing kids and family golf in a club environment, with tee locations of 3200, 3800, and 4400 yards and a state-of-the-art academy building. In 2009, U.S. Kids Golf began a partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance.
The U.S. Kids Golf Foundation is a recognized 501(c)(3) public charity. The U.S. Kids Golf Top 50 award recognizes coaches for their ability to teach the game to kids, and coaches who receive the award three times are named Master Kids Coaches, with over 110 Master Kids Coaches recognized. Over 2000 PGA and LPGA professionals have attended the U.S. Kids Golf Certification training program.
U.S. Kids Golf offers nine sizes and three models of clubs, and players are fit by height instead of age. Ultralight kids clubs were designed to be 25% lighter than adult and most junior clubs and are up to 30 percent lighter than adult clubs, while Tour Series clubs have heads 5% heavier than those in the Ultralight system and use stiffer shafts. The Yard Club has a molded grip that teaches proper hand placement, an oversized but extremely lightweight head with a pitching wedge loft, and a flexible lightweight shaft.
