Boss Basketball offers hands-on basketball experiences that include camps, clinics, skills camps, individual instruction, group instruction, and competitive teams. The program also offers ongoing instruction and teams for players who want more structured basketball training and play.

Launched in the fall of 2020, Boss Basketball states that it strives to bring together and grow the Central Oregon basketball community, and its first team was launched in 2021. The program’s mission is to equip young people with the skills and experience necessary to become the best they can be both on and off the basketball court. Boss Basketball asks that each camper bring their own water bottle and indoor basketball shoes.

Owner and coach Kevin Boss moved to Bend in the spring of 2012 after a six-year NFL career that included a Super Bowl XLII victory with the New York Giants, and he founded Boss Sports Performance in 2014. The leadership and coaching group includes Kevin Boss (Owner & Coach), Logan Garvin (Coach & President), Caleb Tatum (Coach), Joe Wells (Coach), Michael Nunes (Coach), Erin Mathias (Coach), and Nate Christensen (Coach). Coach Logan Garvin earned 3A Oregon State Player of the Year honors, was named 1st Team Valco League four times, 2002 Valco Player of the Year, three-time 1st Team All State Tournament, and 2004 Southern Region Player of the Year at Chemeketa Community College, later earning a full-ride scholarship to Regis University, where he competed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and earned All Conference Honorable Mention, and he completed a Master’s in Sport Administration from Northern Colorado in 2009 before spending over 10 years in athletic administration. Coach Joe Wells graduated from Linfield with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and in 2018 graduated from Willamette University with a Master’s in Executive Leadership and Analytics. Coach Michael Nunes is a former national champion and collegiate player under Hall of Fame coach Danny Miles. Coach Erin Mathias was named Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year and Miss PA Basketball in 2014, played at Duke University where she was part of two Sweet 16 appearances in four years, and later played professionally in Italy’s Serie A1 Lega Basket Femminile for club USE Basket Empoli and for club BBC Grengewald in Luxembourg.

Boss Basketball describes its approach as emphasizing collaborative teaching, encouragement, and reaching one’s full potential, with beliefs that there is no substitute for hard work, the greatest form of motivation is encouragement, the person is more important than the product, attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference, and basketball should be fun. The organization states that it strives to bring together and grow the Central Oregon basketball community, and notes that since arriving in Bend in 2012, Kevin Boss has surrounded himself within the Central Oregon hoops community. It also states that Caleb Tatum plans to use his knowledge and experience to serve the basketball community of Central Oregon in any way he can, that Logan Garvin and his family are in Bend to help grow the game of basketball in Central Oregon, and that Erin Mathias has relocated to Bend and is working with Boss Basketball with a focus on the next generation and their basketball goals.
