Camp Fire Central Oregon has been an innovative leader in youth development since 1916, and its mission is to connect young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves. Programs combine elements of outdoor adventures, leadership, and service, and include Teen Connects, which focuses on volunteering for the community, leadership, and fun. Kids Night Out includes games, activities, crafts, and dinner, offered by Camp Fire staff and volunteer babysitters trained and certified by Camp Fire. Camp Fire’s programs are kept small to support a strong adult:youth ratio, and low cost options and financial assistance are available for all programs.
Camp Fire Central Oregon has staff and programming committed to getting youth outside and helping them engage with and build appreciation for the natural world. Programs are open to all and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, physical challenges, or sexual orientation. Camp Fire Central Oregon received national recognition with the Culture of Safety Award and was honored at the 2025 Camp Fire Leadership Conference for its commitment to youth protection and abuse prevention.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Kecia Kubota, Operations Director Melanie Feltmate, Program Director Morgan Schaening, Special Projects Director and Grants Manager Mary Bowker, Program Specialist Cece Valceschini, and Executive Administrator Javier Leiva. Kecia Kubota holds a Masters degree in International and Intercultural Management with an emphasis in Training and Human Resource Development.
Teen Connects offers single-day opportunities to give back, including numerous service-project activities over winter and spring breaks and participation in the Bend Veterans Day Parade. Community involvement also includes opportunities for friends and family of Camp Fire to connect around outreach events such as Valentine’s for Veterans on the Annual MLK Jr. National Day of Service and Absolutely Incredible Kid® Day, as well as a partnership with Puyallup Tribal Enterprises and Puyallup Chocolates. One Camp Fire Afterschool parent shared, “I really just want to say how much you all absolutely ROCK and how much we truly appreciate you and what you do for all kiddos every single day! You guys are AMAZING!”
