Camp Fire Central Oregon has been an innovative leader in youth development since 1916 and has been helping Central Oregon youth find their sparks for over 100 years. Its mission is to connect young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves. Programs are open to all, and Camp Fire Central Oregon does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, physical challenges, or sexual orientation. Camp Fire programs are kept small to support a close adult:youth ratio, and Camp Fire Central Oregon is committed to getting youth outside and helping them engage with and build appreciation for the natural world. Camp Fire creates safe spaces where young people can have fun and be themselves.

SummerKids is designed for working families and offers epic weekly themes, indoor and outdoor spaces, leadership programs for 7th–9th graders, and Junior Counselor roles for high schoolers. Tumalo Day Camp is a group outdoor learning camp that offers shared joy and responsibility, lasting friendships, and Counselor in Training opportunities for 8th–12th graders. Summer Robotics are half-day camps. Camp Fire Afterschool offers a flexible schedule each quarter and can be attended 1 to 5 days a week. No School Day Camps are offered most days when Bend-LaPine School District days are out in Bend, with some also offered in South County. Teen Connects focuses on volunteering for the community, offers numerous service-project activities over winter and spring breaks, and includes single-day opportunities to give back. Kids Night Out is run by Camp Fire staff and volunteer babysitters who are trained and certified by Camp Fire.

Camp Fire Central Oregon participates in the Bend Veterans Day Parade, hosts BINGO fundraisers and the Autumn Family Faire, and offers outreach events such as Valentine’s for Veterans on the annual MLK Jr. National Day of Service in January and Absolutely Incredible Kid Day in March. Camp Fire Central Oregon has a partnership with Puyallup Tribal Enterprises and Puyallup Chocolates. The organization received national recognition with the Culture of Safety Award and was honored at the 2025 Camp Fire Leadership Conference for its commitment to youth protection and abuse prevention.

The leadership team includes Executive Director Kecia Kubota, Operations Director Melanie Feltmate, Program Director Morgan Schaening, Special Projects Director Mary Bowker, Program Specialist Cece Valceschini, and Executive Administrator Javier Leiva. Kecia Kubota holds a master’s degree in International and Intercultural Management with an emphasis in Training and Human Resource Development. Melanie Feltmate has experience working as a whitewater rafting guide, and Mary Bowker has a bachelor’s degree in physics. One parent, Lindsay B., described Camp Fire Central Oregon Programs by saying, “This camp is an absolute winner!” and shared that her three children “have had an absolute BLAST this week” and “come home bursting with excitement to share all they learned.”
