Wildheart Nature School states that its mission is to help people remember their place in the web of life by nurturing wildness, wonder, and reverence for the Earth through nature-immersive experiences with story, song, and soil, offering a living education that restores kinship, sparks curiosity, and inspires heartfelt stewardship. Camps cover everything from primitive skills to nature art in a variety of theme-based camps, and they are described as being for pure fun, games, and crafts with no homework. The program has a smoke contingency plan that includes monitoring air quality with government and handheld readers and using the High Desert Museum as a backup location when air quality exceeds around 150 on the air quality index, with an $8 per-child fee that is waived with Registration Protection. Payment plans are available through the registration system, and sibling and multi-session discounts apply. Wildheart Nature School also offers a Pre-K–Kindergarten Early Childhood Program at Juniper Jungle Learning Farm for ages 3–6, a No School Nature Day program aligned with the Bend/Lapine School District schedule, and homeschool programs for ages 6–13 with weekly outdoor outings and resources to extend learning at home. Wildheart Nature School has been voted “Best Summer Camp” in Bend Nest Parenting magazine three out of the past four years.
One parent, Jenny Kettle, reports that the programs changed her son’s life in powerful ways and that he learned to embrace his uniqueness and become more in touch with himself and nature. Another parent, Robine, says her daughter came home from camp happy, peaceful, content, mindful, and excited about what she made, what she did, and the animals and plants she spent time with, and that she would recommend the camp to everybody. A third parent, Sharon Richards, describes her daughter using a “sit spot” from camp to calm down during an argument and expresses appreciation for the teachings.
