About
Youth Activities includes Summer Kidz Camp along with a wide range of sports, arts, and enrichment programs such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, mountain biking, chess, dance, music lessons, swimming, hiking, exploring, arts and crafts, and science activities. The program also offers specific leagues and classes, including a 3–5 years old soccer program, K–2nd grade soccer league, 6th–8th grade middle school pre-season basketball league, Beginner Dance and Dance for ages 4–7, K–2nd grade basketball program, 3rd–6th grade youth basketball league, middle school ski and snowboarding, K–2nd grade and 3rd–8th grade indoor soccer leagues, a youth baseball hitting clinic, 1st–5th grade track and field, a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for 2nd–8th grade, a Chess League for K–6th grade, and Rocketry for 3rd–8th grade. Aquatic options within Youth Activities include Learn-to-Swim Programs offered throughout the year, Water Polo, Swim Team, and Water Aerobics.

• Schedule: Summer Kidz Camp runs for 9 weeks from June 22 to August 21, 2026, with full-day sessions from 9am to 3pm and optional Extended Day Care from 3pm to 5pm; seven 5-day camps and two 4-day camps are offered. Fall Youth Activities registration opens June 3, 2026 at 5:00 pm; Winter Activities registration opens September 1 (or the Tuesday after Labor Day); Spring Activities registration opens December 1 (or the first Monday in December).
Hood River Valley Parks & Recreation District began in 1988 and expanded its role in 1992 to include parks, trails, and recreation services, adding youth and adult recreation programs in 2021. The district operates and maintains the Hood River Aquatic Center, including swim lessons and other aquatic programs, and develops and maintains parks and trails across the county, and has been the main creator of new parks in Hood River County since 2002. Financial assistance is available for all youth activities, and volunteers are needed for most programs. Summer Kidz Camp offers a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program for 13–15 year olds to assist counselors.
The mission of the Hood River Valley Parks + Recreation District is to provide recreational opportunities to the citizens of the Park District, with a focus on the youth of the community, and to develop and maintain facilities and programs that provide safe and economical recreational environments for all users. Hood River Valley Parks & Recreation District serves almost all of Hood River County, excluding the City of Cascade Locks, and works with local schools so students have the chance to learn how to swim. The leadership team includes Director Mark Hickok; Assistant Director Marcie Wily; Aquatic Center Supervisor Ally Kriskewic; Assistant Supervisor (Aquatics) Kenna Harris; Recreation Supervisor Jaime Rivera; Assistant Supervisor (Sports + Recreation) Gio Mangaña-Rivera; Program Coordinator Kennedy Breithaupt; Maintenance Supervisor Anthony Johnston; and a five-member Board of Directors elected by citizens of the District.
