Founded in 2013, Ash Creek Arts Center states that “Art belongs to everyone” and describes creative expression as a fundamental right and a vital part of a thriving, connected community. The Center offers visual and literary arts, hands-on workshops, and performances through programming for all ages. Ash Creek Arts Center is a registered nonprofit in the State of Oregon and a federally recognized 501(c)(3) organization and is managed by an all-volunteer board.
The leadership team includes Program Coordinator Sarah Wolfer; Board President Mary Harden; Secretary Adry Clark; Treasurer Carla Mandell; and Board Members Rebecca McCannell, Rebecca Sexton, and Peter Carrillo. The Center offers free and low cost classes year round, distributes free art packs to the community, and is looking for new board members and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Classes are led by local teaching artists.
Ash Creek Arts Center acknowledges support from the City of Independence, the City of Monmouth, the Oregon Legislature, the Oregon Cultural Trust, the Oregon Community Foundation, and the Polk County Cultural Coalition for Coronavirus Relief Fund, which has allowed the Center to run art education classes for all ages and distribute free art packs. The Center partners with local organizations, schools, and community groups and shares its location with the Friends of the Independence Library, a nonprofit formed to help support the town library.
