Ash Creek Arts Center Classes and Workshops offers classes and workshops in the visual, literary, and performing arts for adults and children. Ash Creek Arts Center was founded in December 2013 and began offering classes and workshops to the community in January 2014. Its stated goal is to serve the people of Independence and Monmouth, Oregon, and the surrounding area by offering a broad range of opportunities for community members to enjoy and participate in the visual, literary, and performing arts. The organization is managed by an all-volunteer board and hires local teaching artists to bring art education to Independence, Monmouth, and nearby communities. The center is open only during classes and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered as a nonprofit with the State of Oregon and as a federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Ash Creek Arts Center acknowledges support from the City of Independence, the City of Monmouth, the Oregon Legislature, the Oregon Cultural Trust, the Oregon Community Foundation, and the Polk County Cultural Coalition for Coronavirus Relief Fund, which has allowed it to run art education classes for all ages and distribute free art packs to the community. The center works cooperatively with other agencies and organizations, including the cities of Monmouth and Independence, Western Oregon University, Central School District, the Independence Public Library, and Partnerships in Community Living. The leadership team includes Program Coordinator Sarah Wolfer and board members Mary Harden (Board President), Rebecca Sexton (Secretary), Rebecca McCannell, Eric Frey, Kelsie Leach Provancha Johnston, Elizabeth Bahnmiller-Brown, and Peter Carrillo.
